SPEC SHORTS – (Vol. 2) Issue 19 – May 14, 2025
“This looks excessive… is all of this really required?”
This week’s SPEC SHORTS kicks off a 3-part mini-series where Professor V walks a client through the anatomy of a properly assembled “Tender-ready” Specification and answers the same old question we’ve all heard at the print shop…
Why is this thing so big?
The answer? Because it’s your protection.
One of the biggest misconceptions in our industry is that specifications are administrative, not strategic, but Division 00 proves otherwise. It’s where clarity begins, risk is mitigated, and project alignment starts before the first meeting is booked. It’s where the instructions, forms, and project conditions live.
Division 00 is the silent glue holding the contract together before a single Drawing is required.
When issued for Tender, a Specification must be complete, coordinated, and clear.
Anything less risks becoming a legal minefield disguised as a deliverable wrapped in a Contract.
“You don’t judge the value of a parachute by how light it is, So don’t judge a Specification by its page count. Because by the time you realize it’s incomplete, you’re too late; you’ve already hit the ground!”
